1. Asunama Inejiro, politician and the leader of the Japan Socialist Party in 1960, is assassinated by 17 year old Yamaguchi Otoya, an activist for one of Japan’s Uyoku dantai political parties.
Yamaguchi later hung himself while he was in state custody. An archived Time.com article describes his suicide as “an act of owabi—[an] apology to those inconvenienced by his murder of Asanuma.”
